Gearys metaphor annotations:

the first time listening to Geary talk I was fascinated with what he was connecting metaphors with. For example Elvis Presley or Albert Einstein, both well known men but for two completely different things. But one thing they had in common was their use of metaphors in their work. I enjoyed going back and reading his work over because you go to slow down and absorb the content a bit more. Really understand the point he was putting across and how you could relate and reflect Upon it. I found it helpful as well, As much fun it is to see visuals and listen too another voice talk its nice to slow down at your own pace. I found reading the transcript myself and breaking down what he had to say sentence by sentence made my understand of the concept a lot better and more clear. A common theme I repeatedly saw pop up within the writing was “bringing together what we know and what we don’t know…” And how a lot of brilliant discoveries were brought through mixing a little bit of riot knowledge and a little but of new knowledge to Create a metaphor. I also really liked the quote of “But metaphor is a way of thought before it is a way of words” reflecting off of that, its completely true. You think of a thing and use a verb to describe it but that word could be so far out of the things realm. Like comparing a girl to the sun, polar opposites but our mind process what is being said and can imagine it seamlessly. I find it fascinating really, how our minds can work like that so quickly. And am intrigued by Gearys thought process and how he explains metaphor.
